The brief
Fisherman’s Chips serves the Bedford area with fresh fish and chips. Like most independent takeaways, its trade concentrates into narrow windows around lunch and dinner — and in those windows, every order taken by phone pulls a staff member away from the fryer, while every queue at the counter is a customer deciding whether to wait.
The brief was to give regulars a way to browse the menu and order from their phone, particularly during the busiest, most time-pressured periods. It also needed search engines to understand the site as a genuine local takeaway rather than a generic template, so that people searching for chips in Bedford actually find it.
The build
We built a menu-first website with online ordering placed front and centre, so a customer can land on the site, see the full menu and place an order in a few taps without calling or queuing.
The whole experience is optimised for mobile, since that’s where the overwhelming majority of takeaway orders start — a fast-loading menu, clear pricing, and a checkout flow built for speed during service. We structured the site so search engines can clearly read it as a local takeaway, with consistent location signals and content built around the terms people in Bedford actually use.
The outcome
Fisherman’s Chips has a fast, mobile-first site that lets customers browse the full menu and order directly, without tying up the phone line or queuing in person. The structure and content are built around local “fish and chips Bedford” search terms, giving the shop a findable presence among the customers most likely to order from it.
During busy service, online ordering gives the kitchen a steadier, more predictable stream of orders instead of a phone ringing on top of walk-in trade.
